About HeiBräu

HeiBräu is a news/music aggregate source and features original reviews several times weekly. We also feature several songs for Friday Listens. They don’t necessarily constitute an endorsement of the music or its respective album, but have caught our attention for one reason or another.

  • About the name…

The name is HeiBräu, intended to be pronounced “high brow,” plainly referring to the oh-so-sophisticated independent music we gravitate toward. We are, for the German speakers out there, well aware that the correct pronunciation of the name (minding the umlaut) is actually “high broy.” As a gesture of homage toward the umlaut metal bands of the 80s, however — damn the torpedos, full speed ahead — we decided to retain it. We have found that the average reader has enough trouble just pronouncing it correctly, and tends to ignore the umlaut outright.

  • Regarding our new home…

HeiBräu is the new home of Sola Music. Features and content from before August of 2009 have not been migrated, but can still be viewed on Sola Music.

  • About the site…

HeiBräu has been around since just January of 2009, but the minds behind it have been covering music in the independent sphere for over five years. We love fresh, new music that pushes the envelope and innovates uniquely – we make it our business to write about such music.

  • About the staff…

HeiBräu keeps a small regular writing staff and a slightly larger number of impromptu contributors. We give ratings on a ten-point scale. We are dangerously well-dressed.
