This video pisses me off. When I first saw it, I thought, “Oh fun…they seem like they’d be kind of neat to see live.”
That deteriorated rather quickly when a few things dawned on me. To clarify, the first part of it is beautiful. After the first thirty seconds, however, it starts to meander in quality. At 2:25, it goes downhill, at 2:35, it goes way downhill, and at 2:45 — another mere ten seconds later – it isplowing through the depths of the earth toward hell itself.
Not only did they misspell “human” during the intro, they basically all but falsify outright in saying there’s “no sound effects;” it’s clearly pitch corrected. Lie #1! The fact that it’s pitch-corrected means it can’t be “live,” either, and the group is lip-synching (not to mention they aren’t mic’d, anway) …Lie #2! “Pure”…pretty much the same as #1, but Lie #3!
All of this goes without mentioning Lie #4: convincing over three million people that it’s ok to enjoy an a capella medley that includes “Who Let The Dogs Out.” What is perhaps more maddening than all of the petty lies, however, is that people see this gimmicky pastiche as a legitimate and praiseworthy paragon of artistic expression.
